STAFF at a gathered together for a charity walk that will support two of their colleagues.

Members of independent chartered surveyors George F White, staged the ten mile walk along the North Yorkshire coast on September 27, to raise fun for a charity, DEBRA UK, which supports a staff member whose little boy has Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

The three-year-old son of Miles Crossley, investment director at the Group, suffers from the rare genetic condition which causes his skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.

The walk also raised funds for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, which aims to get women diagnosed and treated more quickly, as another staff member was recently diagnosed with the cancer.

The 30-strong group, which included staff, family and friends, walked from Runswick Bay to Sandsend, and back again for the event. So far they have raised £850 to divide between the two charities.

Robyn Peat, managing partner at George F. White, said: “Both charities are really close to the hearts and minds of our team.

“One of our employee’s young son has EB and another has been affected by cervical cancer, so we wanted to do something positive to help as much as we can.

“The 10-mile trek is along part of the Cleveland Way with breath taking views of the heritage coastline towards Whitby. It’s quite a steep challenge up from the beach but we chose a route that our families could join us on.

“I’m pleased to say that everyone completed the course, and that we have been able to raise awareness and money for both charities.

“We especially enjoyed the fish and chips afterwards!”

Miles Crossley, Investment Director at the Group, added: “My son suffers from EB and our family is overwhelmed with the support the team has given us, both on the whole, and helping to raise funds for DEBRA UK with this sponsored walk.

“DEBRA UK has been a fantastic resource for my son and our family because although there is no cure, they are able to provide management support through vast experience in working with families with EB.

“Hopefully with increased donations, one day a cure will be found. The walk wasn’t easy, but we completed it and I am very proud of all who took part.”
