A NEW scheme has been launched by police to tackle long-term problems in a North Yorkshire seaside town.
Operation Culture is now underway in Scarborough following complaints about antisocial behaviour, street drinking, the visible use of illegal substances and people publicly relieving themselves.
The local policing team and Scarborough Borough Council will issue Public Space Protection Orders to offenders, and more officers will be on the streets during the 10-week operation.
Acting Police Sergeant Mike Tinsley said: "We encourage the public to stop and speak with officers in the town, who will be more than happy to tell them about the operation."
