A MAN stole a 3ft tall plant and dragged it around a town centre, prompting police to issue a witness appeal.
The plant, valued at around £200, had been growing in a council-owned pot for five years before it was uprooted and stolen from a display at the end of Baxtergate in Whitby.
A man in a white t-shirt was captured on TV dragging the plant round Whitby town centre at 1.10am on May 6.
Officers are investigating, and have issued a CCTV still of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.
- Anyone with any information about who is responsible for the theft, or who recognises the man pictured in the CCTV image, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for PC David Laverick or Whitby Police.
