FIRE crews are back at The Magpie Cafe in Whitby today to check for hot spots.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the premises Pier Road shortly before noon.

The presence of fire engines at the popular cafe for the third time since Sunday night alarmed some members of the public who thought the building was on fire again.

However, the fire service sought to reassure onlookers and said: "Fire crews attended the Magpie Café at Whitby today following a call from contractors who are working at the site.

"Fire crews attended and used thermal image cameras to check for hot spots.

"Following a full check of the top floor no hot spots could be found.

"Revisits to this site will be on-going by fire crews."

The cafe, which is much-loved by residents and visitors to Whitby, was first struck by fire on Sunday night.

This was followed by a second blaze in the roof area on Monday afternoon.

The cause of the fires are still being investigated by the fire service and thankfully nobody was injured in either incidents.
