AN earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 has struck off the North Yorkshire coast.
The mild earthquake hit 100 miles off the coast of Scarborough at 6.52pm on Tuesday.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) originally reported a 3.9 magnitude tremor from its devices in Glasidale, which are located around 10 miles east of Whitby.
A similar strength earthquake struck Ripon in North Yorkshire in 2011.
Hundreds of earthquakes are detected each year in the UK but aren't felt by people as their tremors are too faint.
People took to Twitter last night to joke about the incident.
