A SCHOOL chef has won her second national award this year for her high standard of work.

In March this year, Kath Breckon, who works at West Cliff Primary School in Whitby, won the lead association for catering in Education School Chef of the Year.

Now she has scooped another trophy after winning Primary Caterer of the Year at the EDUcatering Awards, run by EDUcatering Magazine.

Kath, who prepares meals for about 120 children a day, said: “I am very honoured to have won. I have a great team in my organisation and all of this just goes to prove what a good job school chefs do every day up and down the country to provide nutritious and tasty meals for children.’’

Kath was nominated for the second award by North Yorkshire County Council's catering operations manager June Taylor, who said: “During my years in the industry, every so often you come across someone with exceptional talent and abilities.

"Kath shares her enthusiasm and devotion for her job with everyone she meets. Her consistency and application always cause comment. Not only is Kath a worthy winner but she is also a great ambassador for school meals.

“Despite winning national titles and the opportunities that come with it, Kath remains focused on cooking locally-sourced food and promoting the importance of good nutrition, sharing her success with the school, parents and pupils.’’

The deputy leader of the county council, Councillor Gareth Dadd, said: “Kath’s success is an indication of the importance we place on the training and skills of our catering staff and we are very proud of her.’’
