SINGER Alistair Griffin has helped students at the threatened Eskdale School to create a music video in which they talk of their pride in their school.

Consultation is currently ongoing over proposals to close the Eskdale School site in Whitby and amalgamate it with the town's Caedmon College.

The controversial proposal has attracted widespread opposition from parents and many others in Whitby, who recently organised a protest march through the town and handed in a 5,000 signature petition to education bosses at North Yorkshire County Council.

Now one of Eskdale’s former pupils, singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin, who appeared on Fame Academy, has visited the students to help them create a video.

Alistair, who has had two top 20 hits and a top 20 album in the UK, helped pupils create a video and song in the hope it will persuade decision-makers to keep the school open.

The first half of the video sees them voice their positive thoughts and feelings about their school and builds to a choir of children singing Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know.

The Middlesbrough-born singer said: “To hear children talk with such passion about their school and education is inspiring and underlines that this isn’t a school we should be closing, but one we should be proud of.”

The video is to be launched at a special screening hosted by Alistair at The Met Ballroom in Whitby tonight (Thursday, March 10) and will be launched online shortly after.
