POLICE responding to reports of a pony loose on one of North Yorkshire’s busiest roads arrived to find a loveable, but lost, St Bernard dog roaming the highway.
Officers and PCSOs with Knaresborough Police were alerted to reports from the public of a Shetland Pony wandering on the A59 today (Sunday, December 13).
When they arrived at the scene they discovered the pony to be Ramsey, a St Bernard dog, who was perilously close to traffic on the junction between the A59 and the A1 roundabout.
The dogs were once bred for Alpine rescues and are among the largest breeds of dogs in the world.
Police returned Ramsey safe and well to his owner.
