POLICE are investigating after a cow is believed to have been strangled to death in a field.

The 18-month-old Aberdeen Angus cow was found at New Gardens, Whitby on Sunday morning (May 31) with a length of rope attached around its neck.

It is believed the heifer was killed sometime overnight between Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.

The farming family who owned the cow, said the culprits behind the shocking discovery were “sick”.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight between Saturday and Sunday to get in touch.”
