POLICE are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage following a serious crash involving a cyclist and a car.
It happened at around 9.15am this morning on the A168 in Thornton-le-Street, Thirsk, and involved a female cyclist in her 50s who was critically injured.
Police initially reported that the vehicle involved in the crash was a van driven by a woman but it has now been confirmed that it was a silver Nissan Micra, which was driving was in front of the van at the time.
The cyclist was taken to James Cook hospital where she currently remains in a critical condition.
The road was closed while officers carried out an examination of the scene and it reopened at noon.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who was in Thornton-le-Street this morning and witnessed the crash to contact them.
In addition they would like to speak to anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident.
