MEMBERS are continuing to raise funds for the restoration of an historic church and are delving into its local history.

Work on St Leonard’s Church in Thornton le Street near Northallerton is progressing well thanks to an £11,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

However, a shortfall still needs to be met and members are holding a coffee morning and plant sale on June 10 between 10am and noon to raise further funds.

A spokesman said: “This is an opportunity for visitors to find out about our building project, our workshops and also the exciting history and heritage research which is also taking place.

“We are also anxious to hear from anyone who has any interesting information or stories from the past history of Thornton le Street to help us with our history project.”
