FIVE fire crews were needed to deal with a large blaze on heather land near Thirsk.
Crews from Ripon first attended the scene at Primrose Hill, Kirby Knowle, at around 2.40pm and confirmed that the fire covered an area of approximately 150m x 150m.
They requested a further three appliances to help deal with the blaze and they arrived from Thirsk, Boroughbridge and Northallerton.
A further two appliances were called for and these arrived from Kirkbymoorside and Bedale.
The fire was eventually extinguished after more than two hours by crews using using beaters and wildfire knapsacks.
