UPSALL Castle is continuing its support for a community charity by staging a fundraising concert by folk singer Hattie Briggs.

Ms Briggs has just been nominated for the Rising Star Award by folking.com having already received a nomination for BBC Radio 2’s Young Folk Award in 2014.

Since then she has toured the USA, the Netherlands and the UK, playing numerous festivals and the O2 arena in London.

Ms Briggs has won a loyal fanbase for her folk-pop music with its trademark personal lyrics.

Her appearance at Upsall Castle on Saturday April 29 is aimed to promote awareness of the work of Thirsk Community Care which provides a variety of services for the vulnerable across the Hambleton and Richmondshire area.

Ms Briggs will be joined by cellist Jasmine Scott Neale, daughter of Stuart Croxford Neale, the keyboard player of 80s band Kajagoogoo.

The two agreed to perform as part of a drive to raise the profile for Thirsk Community Care and fundraise at the same time.

The organisation is striving to raise a further £10,000 this year to ensure it can continue providing services such as meals on wheels and support for disabled children.

The charity also runs a community cafe and mentored support tailored for women.

Tickets for the concert cost £20, or £10 for students and apprentices and are available from 01845-523115 or email mandy.park@thirskcommunitycare.org.uk
