A SERIES of special events to bring the community together is being held by Thirsk Quakers.

Working through Churches Together the group have organised three talks on Sunday evenings over the next few months.

Geof Sewell, of Thirsk Quakers, said there had been growing concern after delays over appointing a new rector for the town and they were keen to encourage everyone to come together.

The events start on March 5 with a Springboard talk by Ailsa Lewes on art and dementia, Ailsa is an artist who has been working will elderly people to encourage communication. On April 9 Keith Reeves will be talking about Israel and Palestine and on May 21 Sue Rathmell will be discussing Yorkshire market towns. All the talks are held in the Quaker Meeting House in Thirsk and start at 7pm.

Mr Sewell added:”We really want to try and energise people in the town to come together and look forward. A new Rector is being appointed at Easter and it will be a boost for the town. The talks are a way of encouraging the community to get involved and meet up.”
