ANTICIPATION is growing as one of the region’s most prestigious foodie events draws closer.

Over the years the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards has grown into a major event, showcasing the very best of food businesses in the Richmondshire and Hambleton districts.

This year’s ceremony will be held in the Garden Rooms at Tennants of Leyburn on December 2 and, with interest growing, the deadline for entries has now been extended.

Entries in all 14 categories – two more than last year – will now be accepted until July 22 and organisers are urging even more hopefuls to come forward.

Among the new categories is one celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alf Wight, the Thirsk vet better known as James Herriot.

Yorkshire pudding served with a Sunday roast was his favourite meal – and organisers are looking for the best they can find.

The chair of the awards, Irene Myers, said: “We are really impressed with the interest shown so far.”
