A THREE-day village fair, which has existed for hundreds of years, will see two residents appointed for a day to deliver justice.
Organisers of the Kilburn Feast said a Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress would tour the village on the event’s climax on Sunday, proclaiming their authority and imposing small fines on householders and visitors alike for real or invented misdemeanours.
The feast aims to maintain the long-standing tradition, unite the residents and raise funds for charities including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Friarage Hospital’s MRI scanner appeal, Thirsk Rotary, The Kilburn Institute and the restoration fund for Kilburn’s village square.
Attractions at the event, which starts on Friday, at 7.30pm, will include a charity quiz, a parade, a mouse derby, a duck race, live music and a seven-mile road race.
