TWIN brothers are set to achieve their career ambitions at the double after landing sponsors to fund them through their degrees.

Jack and Matthew Thorman, of Balk, near Thirsk, are set to go on their own paths for the first time in their lives after both being awarded triple distinction stars - equivalent to three As at A-level - in their BTEC advanced diplomas in engineering.

Jack is set to start as a trainee construction manager for Laing O'Rourke and will study at Manchester University, while Matthew will become a trainee sea corps marine navigation officer and undergraduate at Newcastle Marine College.

Their father, David, said the 19-year-olds, who attended Barnard Castle School and Darlington College, had achieved their long-term ambitions through a combination of tenacity, drive and a zest for learning.

He said: "Their success was not a surprise as they have done well right the way through their course.

"Until now, they have done everything together, even some part-time jobs, but now they have decided to go their separate ways."
