A TOWN has put the spotlight on ethical shopping with an awareness campaign.

Stokesley’s Fair Trade group took part in Fair Trade Fortnight between February 26 and March 11 to raise awareness on the needs of producers in developing countries.

They also staged a free prize draw for a hamper of Fair Trade products in the Co-op store on Springfield in the town.

Eileen Driver, the leader of the Stokesley and Great Ayton Fair Trade Group said: “Our local Fair Trade Group is highlighting the benefits of Fair Trade for producers and championing the work that Fair Trade Foundation does to increase more Fair Trade products.

“It is fantastic to have Co-op stores here as they have a wider range of Fair Trade products than any other supermarket, giving us all the option of supporting fair trade producers.”

The group plans to continue raising awareness and for Stokesley and Great Ayton to be re-accredited as fair trade towns.
