PLANS for 26 new homes in a North Yorkshire village have been approved.

Hambleton District Council gave the go-ahead at its recent planning meeting earlier this month, for the properties to be built at Great Broughton, near Stokesley.

At the planning meeting in Northallerton, Michael O’Neil spoke on behalf of Great and Little Broughton Parish Council, objecting to the application.

Approximately a third of the development, on land north of Broughton Grange Farm, will be affordable homes. It will be a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties, including detached and semi-detached homes and a bungalow.

The land lies partly beyond the development limits of Great Broughton, so the developers, Mulgrave Properties and Lordstones Developments submitted additional documents setting out the justification for this.

They stated the site boundaries appear to have been drawn arbitrarily and to fit the development within them would have meant a higher density of homes, out of keeping with the character of the rest of the village.
