A VILLAGE in North Yorkshire has been shortlisted to fight for top honours in an upcoming television competition.
Channel Four are putting together a series of programmes under the title ‘Village of the Year’ and Great Ayton has made it to the shortlist of 76 out of 400 entrants.
Members of the production company visited the village this week to film scenes for the show and may return on Saturday to capture events on High Green organised to commemorate Yorkshire Day.
Activities being filmed include an interview with Rev Paul Peverell about life in the village, a demonstration of Longsword Dancing on High Green and Petch’s pies being made with Frank Stephenson.
The television crew also visited DF Motors to see three generations of the Ferguson family at work.
As well as winning bragging rights, whichever settlement is crowned Village of the Year will win £10,000 for community work to be carried out within the village.
