A TOWN’S open gardens event has helped raise in excess of £11,000 for Teesside Hospice.

On Saturday (July 1) and Sunday (July 2) the community of Stokesley opened its gardens to raise money for the charity. The town takes part every other year, but this month’s event broke all fundraising records.

More than 1,000 people came along to enjoy the gardens on show and to share gardening advice, tips and experiences.

Visitors gave numerous donations in aid of the hospice and residents involved also helped raise additional funds through the sale of refreshments, plants and homemade cakes.

Kim Bradley, community fundraiser said: “It was fantastic to see so many people supporting Teesside Hospice by visiting the beautiful gardens of Stokesley.

“We are thrilled to have raised such a huge amount of money – the most this event has raised to date.

"I would like to thank the gardeners, helpers and volunteer open garden coordinator Julia Haigh on behalf of the hospice for all her hard work – we couldn’t have done it without you.”

  • The next Stokesley Open Gardens event next takes place in summer 2019.
