A 30-MILE charity bike ride is taking place around the North Yorkshire countryside this weekend.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual Stokesley bike ride and it is raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The charity helped the five-year-old son of one of its volunteers when he was diagnosed with cancer during his first week at school.

Kevin Ideson’s son, Jack, was diagnosed with testicular cancer when he was aged just four. They received the devastating news on Jack’s second day at school and treatment began straight away.

During the challenging time for the Darlington family the Make a Wish Foundation sent them on a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland, Paris.

Jack has now been in remission from cancer for a year and his family wish to raise money for the charity, which helps children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

Last year’s race raised £10,000 for the blood cancer charity, Bloodwise.

The race will begin on the Plain, near Stokesley Town Hall, at 10am on Sunday (May 14) and follow a circular route, passing through Great Ayton, Ingleby Greenhow, Great Broughton, Potto and Hutton Rudby. There will be refreshment stops along the way.

Registration and check-in is from 9am.
