A PEDESTRIAN has died after a road accident in Stokesley.

The incident involved a 63-year-old woman and a Vauxhall Astra on the Bridge Road area of the town, which was closed to traffic.

A police screen was erected and three police cars and an ambulance were at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police’s Forensic Collision Investigation Unit also attended the incident. 

On Sunday night, North Yorkshire Police confirmed the woman had died.

"Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Stokesley," said a force spokesman.

"The collision happened at about 12.25pm on Bridge Road, Stokesley, on Sunday, April 2, and involved a grey Vauxhall Astra car and a female pedestrian.

"Sadly, the pedestrian, a 63-year-old woman from the Hartlepool area, was pronounced dead at the scene."
