A TOWN’S ambition to be a leading food tourism destination has been improved by a £100,000 cash injection.

Malton – dubbed Yorkshire’s Food Capital – is celebrating a successful year after an investment from the Community Interest Company (CIC) saw the town’s economy thrive.

Malton CIC published its annual report, which praises its diverse events calendar and range of community initiatives.

The company runs the Malton Food Lovers Festival – celebrating its 10th anniversary this year – as well as the Harvest Food Festival and the Monthly Food Markets.

Malton in Bloom was also deemed a success, with its floral display resulting in the award of a Silver Gilt from Yorkshire in Bloom.

The town celebrated its most successful Food Lovers Festival in 2017, attended by Prue Leith and Levi Roots, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.

Street Food Sundays were launched by Malton CIC last June, bringing a new alfresco dining experience to the town, with retailers reporting that the events stimulated Sunday trading.
