A CARE home is celebrating a resident’s extraordinary milestone, after she marked her 105th birthday.
When Annie Scarle was born in 1913, the First World War had not yet started, Suffragettes were fighting their high profile campaign and George V was on the throne.
The resident of Beechwood Place Nursing Home, in Norton near Malton celebrated her 105th birthday last Thursday.
Born in West Knapton, Annie was church organist at St Andrew’s CE Church in Rillington for many years.
Tina Kelly, the home’s activities co-ordinator, said: “Annie played the organ at Rillington church and she can still sing hymns all the way through and word for word.
“She is our oldest resident by a long way and still very bright and alert. Annie enjoys looking at books from Norton Library and she loves animals, particularly dogs and cats. If any of the staff bring their pets in she likes to stroke them.”
Annie celebrated her birthday with a cake and received flowers, cards and chocolates from friends, family and Norton Town Council.
