RESIDENTS rallied to help motorists who were caught out by ice on a day of numerous crashes.
On Sunday, passers-by worked with police in the Ryedale district as road conditions proved treacherous.
Police were called to Saltergate, Pickering, where a car skidded on ice at 7.30am.
They attended the scene with an off-duty officer, and a woman was taken to hospital with back pain.
At around the same time, a car rolled into a field off the A170 between Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale, but nobody was injured.
At 9am, a bus was stuck on ice on the roundabout at Kirby Misperton where a police officer, staff from Flamingo Land and a local farmer helped to get the it moved and grit the road.
At 9.45am, a car ended up on its roof in Acres Lane, Helmsley, and local PCSOs helped control traffic while the road was blocked.
The driver was shaken and suffered hand injuries.
At around 12.30pm, three vehicles crashed into a wall on Fletton Road, Norton, due to black ice.
