A MAN has died after his car left the road, travelled down an embankment and ended up in a field.

He was at the wheel of a blue VW Polo which was travelling on the A170 towards Pickering in North Yorkshire when it left the road near the junction with Appleton-le-Moors.

Ambulance and fire crews attended the scene and the driver was treated by paramedics.However he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and carry out investigations.

The man, who was in his 20s, is believed to be from the Pickering area but police are not yet in a position to release his identity.

Officers are carrying out enquiries to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
