A LIVE outdoor screening of the classic opera La Traviata is to take place in the grounds of an historic home.

The performance of Verdi’s tale of love and sacrifice at London’s Royal Opera will be broadcast live on a huge screen in the gardens of Castle Howard in Ryedale on Tuesday, July 4.

It is the first time the stately home has hosted a live outdoor screening. Those attending are invited to bring rugs and picnics and a selection of hot and cold drinks, from cappuccino to Prosecco, and light bites will also be available from the refreshment tent.

“We are a nation that embraces open air performances with enthusiasm – a great opportunity to pack up the picnic basket, rugs and deckchairs to create a most memorable evening – and this performance of Richard Eyre’s production is certainly not to be missed,” says marketing manager, Rachel Underwood.

Attendance is free, but tickets to park cost £10 if pre-booked and £15 on the night.

Tickets must be reserved in advance via the Castle Howard website; castlehoward.co.uk.

Car parking can also be pre-booked online.
