John Illingworth – one of the region’s finest photographers – is hosting a one-off exhibition of photography at the Helmsley Arts Centre.

Focusing on stunning landscape photography from across the world, including imagery from Scotland, Yorkshire, Iceland, Venice and more, the exhibition has already proven popular with the public, not just from the local area but also from people from across the region who have come especially to Helmsley to see John’s work.

John, who travelled the world to get the right imagery for this exhibition says: “Even as I press the shutter to make a photograph of the landscape, I am thinking of how I want the image to look when I have processed the RAW image from the camera. I never try to recreate exactly what appeared in front of my lens, instead I want to put my own interpretation on the scene and will use all the tools of digital photography to do that and create an image which is truly unique.”

John has been a professional photographer for years, in 2001 he moved to France, where he successfully exhibited his work at numerous events. On returning to the UK in 2007, John continued working on developing his passion for creative photography as well as photographing many local musicians in the Yorkshire area.

John will be attending the Near and Far exhibition every Sunday until and including 2nd April, where he will be giving talks about his work as well as answering any questions from the public.

Entry into the Near and Far exhibition is free of charge and there are some of John’s photos for sale for those wishing to make a purchase. The show is on until April 2.
