SAFE: Orchard Fields, Malton Picture: Google Earth
THE future of the popular Orchard Fields at Malton has been safeguarded after town councillors signed a lease with the Fitzwilliam Estate for £4,000 a year.
The ancient site, owned by the estate, had been leased to Ryedale District Council for several years, but the authority has now relinquished its interest.
Malton wants to protect the area as public open space.
