A 19-YEAR-OLD woman from Teesside has died after the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree in North Yorkshire.

The three other occupants of the car, who were also from Teesside, were arrested following the crash.

The vehicle they were travelling in was a blue Mercedes C220 which overturned and hit a tree and a metal gate post on an unclassified road near Kirby Misperton in the Ryedale area.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service alerted police at 3.22pm on Thursday. The woman who died was a rear-seat passenger in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman came from Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, and a police spokesman said: "Her family have been informed about the death and are receiving support from the police while the investigation continues."

The car driver, a 27-year-old man from Thornaby, suffered minor facial injuries and was treatment at York Hospital. He was arrested and remains in police custody for questioning.

The spokesman added: "A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, also from Thornaby, were also passengers in the car and required treatment for minor injuries. They have also been arrested in connection with the collision and are being held in custody for questioning."
