COMMUNITY groups in North Yorkshire are hosting Give or Take days to support a drive to re-use and recycle items.

The events involve people bringing items they no longer need, such as clothing or furniture along to a venue, where people can also pick-up items they may need. Since 2009, a total of 28 Give or Take events have been held in Ryedale.

The events are supported by Ryedale District Council through its Choose2Reuse campaign, as they reduce waste.

A spokesperson said: “Give or Take days are ideal for people on tight household budgets. There’s a chance to pick up much-needed household items and save a bit of money at the same time.

“Most people have items they no longer need or use, so it’s much better to pass these on for people to re-use than simply discard them.”

The next Give or Take day will be held by the Quakers (Society of Friends) at the Friends Meeting House on Greengate in Malton on Saturday, October 3, from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

Then Kirkbymoorside Environmental Group will be holding an event at the Memorial Hall in Kirkbymoorside on Sunday, October 26 from 9am to midday.
