FIRE chiefs have warned homeowners not to leave items on cookers that could catch fire after an incident at a house in North Yorkshire.
The fire happened in the Lead Lane area of Ripon around 5pm on Monday evening.
"This was a property where an amount of paperwork and stationary had been placed on the hob," said Ben Cairns, Station Manager at North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"The occupants were out, but the knob had been knocked to the on position, setting fire to the items.
"Luckily, the smoke alarm sounded and the neighbours noticed."
