A DISABLED veteran is proving he has the perfect aim after he qualified for the first ever televised disability darts competition.

Tony Pass, known as 'Tony The Tiger Pass', from Brompton-on-Swale, will be competing in the Disability Darts Invitational in The Hague, Holland, this Saturday.

The former corporal of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers suffers from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - an incurable disease that has left him with only 67 per cent lung function.

The 48-year-old has also developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which he attributes to his 23 years of Army service.

In 2007, Mr Pass began playing for the Richmond and Catterick Darts League.

Over the years, he has received support from the British Disability Darts Association (BDDA) and the World Disabled Darts Association (WDDA).

Earlier this month, he took part in the first Dutch Paradarts Open in Assen – the world’s largest darts open – where he narrowly missed out on the final.

Following this success, he has been invited to the competition on Saturday – which will be televised in Holland and streamed on WINMAU TV for those in the UK.

“Coming third at the very first Dutch Paradarts Open is my biggest darts achievement to date,” he said. “Fingers crossed playing at this event in The Hague will see me bring home the title. Game on.”

In 2012, he raised £500 through raffles and donations to buy a Wildfire 137 dartboard to be used by both wheelchair and standing players.

It is housed at the Phoenix House Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Catterick, which has supported him since leaving the Army.

Mr Pass was a quarter-finalist in the 2015 WDDA Winmau World Masters Championship and a semi-finalist at the WDDA Isle of Man Darts Festival.

In 2016, he was a quarter-finalist at the WDDA European Open in Blackpool and made the semi-finals of the WDDA Welsh Open.

In the same year he finished seventh for Great Britain in the BDDA Road to Winmau Tour, which gave him the opportunity to play at the coveted Lakeside World Masters.

In addition to The Hague Disability Darts 2018 title, the winner of this Saturday’s meet will qualify for the Winmau WDDA World Masters to be held in the UK in October.
