LOTTERY cash has helped transform an ageing visitor centre into a modern attraction telling the history of the Settle to Carlisle railway line.
The line takes in the iconic Ribblehead viaduct and thanks to Heritage Lottery funding and other donations, the visitor centre at Ribblehead Station has been refurbished and a new exhibition installed.
The exhibition traces the line from its opening in 1876 through to the present day.
It describes the building of Ribblehead Viaduct and Blea Moor tunnel and what life was like for the workers and their families.
A plaque to commemorate the opening of the refurbished centre was unveiled by David Brown, who was recently appointed managing director of train operating company Northern.
The visitor centre and exhibition has also been part-funded by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and supported by Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line and Network Rail.
