FUNDRAISERS are known for taking on gruelling charity challenges but one group of Dales men took theirs to the extreme – three times over.

The five-strong team completed a triple-header by kayaking the 11-mile length of Lake Windermere, cycling 40-miles from Ambleside to Hawes before running a half marathon back to Redmire – all in one day.

They raised more than £12,000 for charity and managed to complete all three stages in just ten hours.

Peter Westwood, owner of the Stone House Hotel in Hawes, said that the idea first came about when he was sharing a pint with his hotel manager Chris Greig and it was not long before Mr Westwood’s son Josh, brother Paul and nephew Joe got on-board.

The group, whose ages span from 27 through to 57, celebrated their feat with a party and barbecue at Bolton Arms in Redmire at the end of the route and Peter described the occasion as an “absolutely fantastic day”.

The team had trained hard for the event and Mr Westwood said they would definitely consider doing another one next year.

The money raised will be shared between Bloodwise, Alzheimer’s Research UK and Dales Care.

The team also wished to thank their sponsors; Biker Group, Campbells of Leyburn, O’Reilly Wealth Management, HGM Group, G Clarke Barbers and Ducati Leeds.
