WELL-KNOWN band The Hoosiers are heading to Britain’s highest pub in the Yorkshire Dales - the first of several big-name acts due to play at the remote drinking spot.

The Tan Hill Inn, which sits high above Arkengarthdale, has booked the act to play in its barn – which has been refurbished since being damaged by storms.

The band will play their gig at 1,732ft above sea level on Friday, August 26 and will be the first of six major music acts booked to play the unlikely venue.

On November 18, Scouting for Girls will be playing a gig at the Swaledale pub for BBC Children in Need. Four other major bands are expected to play the venue over the next 12 months and their names will be announced soon.

The intimate venue has a capacity for 200 people and the pub has linked up with Belle Hotel to offer glamping in its bell tents, or traditional camping for fans.

The bookings were made after months of negotiations by the pub and investment in sound equipment in order for the bands to be able to perform full live gigs, instead of scaled back acoustic concerts.

A spokesperson for the pub said: “We’re a really good stopping off point for a band travelling up to Scotland or back down to England. Once we convinced agents that we would present the band and the music well, we knew we were onto a magical formula for fans of great music and fans of the Tan Hill Inn.

“The Tan Hill is like Blackpool Tower; everybody has been at one point or other as a child and has fond memories.”
