SEVERAL fire engines were sent to a North Yorkshire pub amid fears a chimney blaze might spread.
Firefighters were called to the Richard III hotel in Middleham market place around 4.45pm on Thursday.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said crews were able to contain the fire within the chimney.
However, as a precaution crews from Leyburn, Ripon, Richmond and the aerial ladder from Darlington were sent to the scene.
It is believed an accumulation of twigs was to blame for the fire.
"Perhaps some birds dropped the twigs down into the chimney space," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
