A TOURIST information centre has been praised by local businesses for its contribution to the local economy – but the service still needs more volunteers.

Richmond Tourist Information Centre, now situated in the town’s library in Queen’s Road, is being led by local councillor Stuart Parsons who said he has been thanked by local businesses, including a bed and breakfast which has made donations to the service following several recommendations.

Cllr Parsons said: “We are pleased to be able to help boost local tourism but we need more help to do more – all you need is a bit of local knowledge and maybe some experience in customer service, but we will give training.”

Linda Curran, fellow local councillor and volunteer officer at Richmondshire Community and Volunteer Action said people would only have to give a couple of hours a week if that’s all they could manage.

She said: “There are lots of organisations in Richmondshire for people to support with their time but it doesn’t need to be a huge commitment.

“The TIC helps the local tourism economy, which is now busy all year-round, so volunteering at the centre helps tourists, residents and businesses.”
