PROPOSALS for a new Richmond housing development aim to regenerate an area of land in a former service reservoir at the north of the town.

Keyland Developments Ltd and Rouse homes Ltd have submitted a planning application to Richmondshire District Council for the 22 house development in Whashton Road, Richmond.

With Keyland as landowner and Rouse Homes Ltd as developer, the proposals intend to use the site which fronts onto Whashton Road, with high quality family homes, and the developers say it will assist the council’s requirements for new local housing provision to meet high demand in the area.

The site, which is around 2.5 acres in the north of Richmond, is a redundant service reservoir which is no longer needed to serve the town and surrounding villages, and is next to Richmond Golf Club and close to Richmond Racecourse, on the edge of the town.

On the other side of Richmond, between Reeth Road and Victoria Road, Mulberry Homes Yorkshire is building another complex, consisting of 12 homes and eight apartments.

House types will include eight two-bedroom apartments, one three-bedroom house, eight four-bedroom houses and two five-bedroom houses, and work on the homes is expected to be complete by early 2016.

Keyland and Rouse Homes Ltd said: “Our proposals include a mix of market value and affordable three, four and five bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, set around a central square and designed to be in-keeping with the local area.

“The development will incorporate a significant landscaping scheme around the site perimeter and also within its boundaries.”

Peter Garrett, managing director of Keyland Developments Ltd, said: “There is a recognised requirement for new homes within the Richmond area and the proposals have the potential to bring back into use a redundant site to make a positive and much-needed contribution to these long-term housing needs.

“Due to its scale and positioning within an established suburban and residential setting, the site is ideally suited to accommodating new homes and by working with Rouse Homes Ltd, we can facilitate a sensitively-designed, high quality scheme to complement the locality.”

Tony Watling, managing director at Rouse Homes Ltd, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with Keyland to address the housing requirements within north Richmond.

“We are confident that these proposals will be a welcome addition to the local area.”

The plans have not yet been added to Richmondshire District Council’s public access to planning website, http://www.richmondshire.gov.uk/planning/public-access-for-planning.
