THE stepfather of a 20-year-old woman who died in a car accident earlier this year spoke of his devastation last night after another fatality on the same stretch of road.

Codie Richardson, a member of the Royal Dragoon Guards, was killed when the car she was travelling in crashed and hit two trees after her friend lost control driving through Catterick Garrison last February.

The tragedy prompted her family to make a hard-hitting video, in co-operation with North Yorkshire Police. In it they described their feelings of loss in the hope it their suffering would prevent further accidents.

But last night Codie’s stepfather Gary Muir spoke of his grief after another fatal accident on the same stretch of Leyburn Road.

A 24-year-old motorcyclist, from Northallerton, was killed when his white Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle left the road and hit a lamp post.

The accident happened just before midnight on Friday and over the weekend members of Codie’s family visited the scene to leave flowers and messages of condolence.

Mr Muir said: “When I read about what had happened it just floored me. The motorcyclist died just under a tenth of a mile from where Codie was killed.

“The thought of another family having to go through the same thing as we did is just terrible. I feel so bad for them.”

The death came on a particularly grim weekend for fatalities on the region’s roads.

Less than 24 hours later, another motorist died on the region’s roads when a driver from Darlington was killed after his powerful Honda sports car overturned on the A1(M).

Police said the accident happened on the southbound carriageway approximately one mile south of Junction 60, the Bradbury Interchange at about 8.55pm hours on Saturday.

Investigations are continuing into both accidents and police have appealed for another with information to get in touch.
