A YOUTH club which has been re-opened thanks to local council support has received a cheque for £181 to give it a kick-start.

Hawes and District Youth Club has been supported by Hawes and High Abbotside Parish Council and North Yorkshire Youth, and has been presented with the extra cash boost by Neil and Jane McNair, owners of Low Mill Guest House in Bainbridge.

The couple have been selling prints of an original map of Wensleydale drawn by Janet Leyland to guests.

Mrs McNair said: “These fantastic maps were kindly given to us by a local artist, as we had originally set out to collect funds for a new lawnmower for the village.

“As this was sorted out, we saw that the youth club was reopening and thought this would be a good way to use the money instead.”

Stella Dinsdale, the club's new youth leader, said: “What a great start. Receiving so much support from the local community is a great boost. This donation will help us continue to run the youth club and we hope to arrange activities and days out in the near future.”

Prints are £5 each with all proceeds going to the youth club. Contact Mr and Mrs McNair on 01969-650553 or visit lowmillguesthouse.co.uk for more information. Anyone interested in either attending the youth club or volunteering contact Ms Dinsdale on 07540-438109.
