MONEY is being made available to rural businesses that are looking to expand or individuals wanting to launch a new start-up in the moors.

The North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER programme has over £1m funding still available to help support business projects that will have a positive impact on the local economy.

More than £700,000-worth of funding has already been awarded to new and existing enterprises including a whisky distillery, a youth hostel and an ice-cream parlour.

The North York Moors National Park Authority, which is the lead partner for the programme, is keen to communicate that help and support is available for free, throughout the grant application process.

Malcolm Bowes, chair of the LEADER executive group said the money could go towards anything from the purchase of new buildings, land, machinery, vehicles and tools.

Grants start at £5,000 - or £2,500 Farm Productivity grants - and there is no upper limit. For details vistmoorscoastandhills.org.uk
