FIRE crews spent several hours dealing with a large blaze on the North Yorks Moors after a 'controlled burn' got out of control.
The fire starting spreading on scrubland at Newgate Moor at 3.24pm yesterday (Thursday, April 6).
Crews from Pickering, Goathland, Whitby, Malton and Kirkbymoorside were all called to deal with it.
A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said that at around 5.25pm the fire was covering around three acres of dry scrubland and undergrowth but the crews managed to contain it using hose jets and beaters at its perimeter.
