AMBITIOUS plans have been mooted to transform a disused quarry into a luxury holiday village in one of the biggest ever developments in the North York Moors National Park.
The multi-million pound Spaunton Hollow scheme would involve the creation of around 50 timeshare houses, cottages and apartments at the quarry at Spaunton, near Kirkbymoorside.
A central clubhouse with leisure and sports facilities and a spa are also part of the plans which aim to replicate the Langdale Estate in The Lake District.
However, no planning application has yet been submitted and a spokesman for the North York Moors National Park Authority said such a major development would be unlikely to win its support.
He said: “We have not received a planning application for that site.
“We have been approached by the owner to ask for planning advice and we have said if we do get a planning application for that proposal we would assess it against National Park policies which are in place to protect the National Park landscape.”
