SCORES of tributes have been paid to a brain aneurysm survivor whose body was found in a North Yorkshire lake.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances after Gavin Egan, of Kirkbymoorside was found in the lake at Peasholm Park in Scarborough, near the bandstand, on February 24.

His mother, Lesley Shields, said her family appreciated the "kind and thoughtful messages" of support shared on a Facebook tribute page set up in memory of the 34-year-old.

She said the messages "have been a great comfort to us at this saddest of times."

More than 300 people have 'liked' the Facebook page, and many have shared photographs and memories of Mr Egan.

Mrs Shields has posted a number of poems to the page, including the verse: "My life at the moment is empty and dark, the light that once shone has gone out in my heart."

His sister, Mel, wrote: "He had such an infectious laugh and was always coming out with such funny stuff.

"Despite all your problems you had a heart of gold and were such a caring person."

An inquest into Mr Egan's death has been opened and adjourned.
