MALTON District Male Voice Choir is to sing with soprano Lesley Garrett.

The Malton choir, which is 10 years old next year, will join the popular opera and show singer and six other male voice choirs in a giant "Men of Steel" concert in Scunthorpe on Saturday, May 21.

Organised by Scunthorpe Male Voice Choir, it will feature about 200 male voices and Lesley Garrett as guest vocalist.

Concert organisers said the acclaimed opera and show star will join the men for two well-known songs Some Enchanted Evening and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

She will also sing in two 20-minute solo slots during the show, which will take place at the Baths Hall.

Lesley said: “I know that the Malton choir are relatively young, just 10 years old, but I am sure we will be able to make fabulous music together.

“I send my good wishes to Malton and the choir and wish them all the very best for their rehearsals. I can’t wait to sing with them all in just a few months’ time."

Joining the Malton choir are Hartlepool MVC.

Anyone who would like to join the choir and be part of the Scunthorpe concert should phone 01944-758693 or 01653-692362.

It meets Mondays at 7.30pm in the Baptist Church Hall in Wells Lane Malton.
