ONE of the region’s biggest attractions will be hosting a fund-raising 10k run in March – and tickets have now gone on sale.

The second annual FlaminGO! 10k will take place on March 5 within the grounds of Flamingo Land Resort, near Pickering.

Some 600 participants will have the chance to run past many of the rides as well as some of the animal enclosures.

The run is a partnership project between Flamingo Land and Circle, a conservation project founded by the University of York.

It aims to raise £6,000 for African forest conservation in the Udzungwa forest project, Tanzania.

In the past they have helped thousands of African villagers, promoting education and development while protecting forest sustainability and the vulnerable species such as threatened red colobus monkey and the Magombera chameleon.

A spokesperson said: "The run was a huge success last year and we are hoping for an even better run experience this year, whilst helping to save even more threatened species."

Entry fees are £13 for Run Britain affiliated runners and £15 for non-affiliated runners. Sponsorship is also encouraged to help maximise the funding available for forest conservation in Tanzania.
