A NEW man has taken the reins at one of North Yorkshire’s biggest shows.

Alan Tate-Smith is the new chairman of the Malton Show, taking over from Michael Cleary who has held the post for two years.

Born and bred in the area, he 37-year-old has been a regular show visitor all his life and joined the committee last year.

He is a partner at the local NFU Mutual office covering all of Ryedale and has worked with Yorkshire farmers and local people all his life, not only at the NFU, but prior to that, as a land agent and auctioneer at Cundalls in Malton for eight years.

“I’m passionate about this wonderful local event that brings together farmers, children, local businesses and residents, plus visitors from much further afield,” he said.

“The show has been running for 129 years, and with that amount of history and tradition behind it, I am dedicated to ensuring its long term success going forward.”

This year’s show takes place at Scampston Park, near Malton on July 5 starting at 9am and ending in the early evening.

Entry will be £10 for adults, £5 for 12 to 16-year-olds and concessions and under-12s get in free.
