THOUSANDS of people stepped back in time for a wartime weekend on one of Britain’s oldest heritage steam railways.
The North Yorkshire Moors railway, which runs between Pickering and Grosmont, started the event some years ago to commemorate the contribution of railway workers during the Second World War and it has grown into a huge celebration of nostalgia.
Hundreds of world war re-enactors in military and 40’s dress gathered for the events, street parades and vehicle displays which were held along the line at Pickering, Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont stations.
The event is always based on the year 1943, the year Grosmont station became the base of operations for the RAF and Levisham was transformed into the German 0ccupied French village of Le Visham.
